    Icon2 Free Domain Registrar

I was searching a bit last week to find a free domain registrar site. After few days of search, yesterday i got to know about one site - co[dot]cc but without knowing anything about that site how can i register my domain?

I'm having a blog under blogspot[dot]com should i setup my domain with a co[dot]cc? What all benefit i'll get if i register my own domain with co[dot]cc? Need a advise before registration.

    Thanks
    kmamaji

I would never suggest anyone use any type services that off free domain registers, or accept any type of free domains, because if you accept a free domain, then that domain is no longer yours, and this is what they are banking on, so if you end up with a free domain that someone else has paid for, and your domain takes off like a rocket, guess what, you do not have final control over that domain as it is not yours. I would highly suggest that anyone stay way from free domain registers, or services that offer free domains, because in the end, it will not be your domain, and you will not have a say, and I have heard stories where someone ended up with a very good domain that they did not control, and it was taken away because they did not actually own the domain as it was purchased for them as a free offer, so stay away from any type of free domain offers.

Oh! You mean to say the only site i host my domain with, will be the only company who can cheat me later and might takes my domain away? But they give many proofs of their recent registrar, what to say about that?

I am not saying you will be cheated, but if your domain is free, and you do not have control over your cpanel, then what is stopping them from taking the domain if it gets popular? You have no control if you have gotten a free domain, and you are simply taking a chance if you go with a free domain.

I never said the site is going to cheat you, but I am saying that I do not like other people having control over my domain, as cheap as domains are, it would be best to have control, and pay the few dollars for the domain. anything to do with having a free domain just means no control.

If free registrar means no control then, why they says, they are providing Sub domains, CNAME,A,MX,NS,TXT, Control Panel, Google Apps, Windows Live Custom Domain, Adsense for Domain, Amazon Associates, Blogger custom domain and much more. What i can understand from it?

I do not know about all that stuff. This is pretty simple. If you did not buy the domain, the end result is, it is not your domain. The domain will belong to the company that gave it to you free, unless they release control over to you, which I doubt they will, as their is no real purpose in offering a free domain and to release control over the domain to you. Compaines normally offer a free domain to get your business such as using their hosting, but the fact is they own the domain, not you. Since they control your domain, you have to remain with them, or they may disallow you access as they would control all aspects of the domain. You may be able to do certain things in your account, but over-all, they control the NS, and that is what counts, if they change your NS, then your domain will not work with your host anylonger. I strongly advise for anyone not to get a free domain, but in the end, it is your decision. I can not tell you what to do. If you get a free domain, then you have a high chance of losing it in the future. They use free domain offers to lure you in doing business with them, and if you leave, then you may not have the right to take the domain with you since you did not own the domain, they just provided you free access to the domain.

    You were right Dave

Yesterday, i discussed all this matter with my dad and he also said that i should not go with free hosting companies, it can be a disaster in future.

I'm happy that you guys are here to show right directions to a person who is new in the field.

    Re: Free Domain Registrar

I don't think there's a problem getting a free co.cc domain. Co.cc is a very old domain registrar. They provide free subdomains like yourname.co.cc . There names may be available for free and may not be for free. If your name is available to register for free and you register it, they simply won't take away your domain.

But I agree with Dave about other free offers but this co.cc is a real big company. And still whatever be the thing, I also agree that you don't have full control on the domain, suppose if the company is sold, you might loose the domain.
You are not paying anything, so how can you even expect to have full control.

If you have even $1, you can buy a .info domain from godaddy .
The main reason for going with co.cc domain is because its free, short, its better than blogspot subdomain domain. You can redirect your whatever.blogspot.com to whatever.co.cc if you want.
